Mona was only nine years old when a terrible accident ended her life. Friends and family wanted her adventurous, curious, and joyful spirit to continue to live on.  Mona’s mother, Silke, a longtime supporter of the Cambodian Village Fund, cherished Mona’s curiosity and her love for learning and for books. When people asked her: “How can we help?”, Silke saw an opportunity to create a lasting and meaningful tribute to Mona through enriching the lives of others. She established Mona’s Fund to give more children the opportunity to learn and grow. And then the donations poured in from many who loved and cherished Mona. 

Mona’s Library, the first of Mona’s legacies, is now open to the children in Stoeung Chak Village. Thanks to Mona’s friends and family, the library is an exciting place for the kids and a most precious jewel in the little rural village. 

The flood of donations was so overwhelming that Mona’s Fund is launching another project in Cambodia.  “Mona’s Terrace” will be a rooftop sanctuary for 28 scholarship girls who will live in a new, three-story dormitory in Battambang while they study at colleges and universities. The terrace will give the girls an amazing place to retreat, study, socialize, eat meals, do laundry and tend to a rooftop garden. With breathtaking views, Mona’s Terrace will be a place that inspires the mind and nurtures the soul.

Mona’s Fund, with the goal of education, will also support scholarship opportunities so that students may complete their education all the way through college and change their lives.  YES! Mona’s memory is changing the lives of the children in Cambodia.  Mona made life better for many around her with her kindness and joyful heart – and now she continues to make life better.
